Animal Imaging has a Siemens Somatom Volume Zoom 4 slice CT scanner. This multi-slice CT greatly expands our imaging capabilities, and helps us achieve our goal to provide the best in imaging technology for small animal and equine patients.
We are able to obtain CT images of the equine skull while standing without the use of general anesthesia. This creative use of CT technology was developed by Dr. Sarah Powell, Dr. Travis Henry, et al and is extremely beneficial in better understanding complex dental cases, such as fractures as well as diagnosing tumors, sinus pathology, etc.
The ability to perform standing CT scans of a horse’s head is not currently available anywhere in the United States.
Dr. Powell has helped to perfect this technology in Europe.
Dr. Neelis and Dr. Biscoe are available for consultation on cases if questions arise on which cross-sectional imaging modality (CT vs MRI) is preferable for a particular patient.
