An ultrasound (sometimes referred to as a sonogram) is a non-invasive process of using sound waves to capture live images inside the patient’s body. Notably, ultrasound does not penetrate through air so some organs that contain gas/air (such as the lungs and sometimes intestines) can only be evaluated to a limited extent with this technology. Ultrasound also works well in conjunction with other diagnostic tools and a wide range of diagnostic procedures. It is a rapid and safe way to gather more information to help find the best solution for the horse.

- Reproductive management
- Pregnancy diagnosis

What to Expect
Following the ultrasound, one of our board-certified radiologists will review all the images and submit a final report within 24-48 hours of the exam. The report and clinical findings will then be sent to the referring veterinarian. Clients should follow up with the referring veterinarian for explanation of results and information on treatment or management.
