Veterinary MRI Scans

What You Need To Know About Veterinary MRI Scans

  • Musculoskeletal imaging, primarily shoulders, stifles, and the pelvis
  • Vascular studies
  • Small animal neurologic imaging — evaluating the brain, spinal cord and brachial plexus for abnormalities that may correlate with presenting symptoms.
  • Specialty studies available per Radiologist approval

All MRI appointments are scheduled as daily outpatient appointments. We ask that the patient arrive around 7:30am for check-in. Our staff will call the owner when the patient is ready to be discharged. Our Board-Certified Veterinary Radiologists will review the images and generate a report within 24-48 hours of the exam.

Magnets commonly used in human and veterinary medicine range from 0.2 – 0.3 Tesla strengths. With a higher Tesla strength, image quality is improved and the scan can be performed faster. Given the sensitivity to motion, all MRI patients at Animal Imaging are anesthetized and monitored during the procedure.
